Go Time for Social Consumption in the Garden State: NJ-CRC

On July 15th, the New Jersey Cannabis Control Commission (NJ-CRC) made the social consumption of cannabis in public spaces a reality by awarding four “consumption area endorsements” licenses.

Congratulations to the four inaugural license award recipients, SunnyTien and High Rollers of Atlantic City, along with Gynsyng in Merchantsville and URB’N in Newark. These new licenses will allow retail owners a designated space to welcome medical and recreational users to enjoy cannabis responsibly onsite.

The consumption area endorsement rules are straightforward: a 21+ photo ID is required to enter, and the dispensary is not permitted to sell food, alcohol, or tobacco. Customers will be allowed to have food delivered from their favorite restaurants or bring food from home.

In either case, they will be free to elevate their dining experience by consuming cannabis to their preference. It could be a drizzle of infused olive oil to finish a salad, or a cold beverage to sip on with chips.

The table is set in New Jersey for public social consumption, going live before Labor Day, with local municipalities’ approvals being the final sign-off step. This initial green light signals that the Garden State could evolve into the nation’s destination for culinary cannabis cafes. Watch this space.
